I was looking to trial Bitdefender AV (and only AV) but their trial installs Total. My intention would be to use BD AV with a GUI frontend for MS Firewall, like Binisoft.

I noticed a lot of page slowdowns while browsing the web using TS, and I was wondering if this is an issue when using the plain AV (with no HTTPS scanning). I'd rather not pay for something and then have it be a pain in the ass after the fact.

I am not sure, but I remember that bts will scan webpages by default, maybe that is why opening pages are slow? go to protection--> online threat prevention--> and turn some off to fit your needs.

I'm using BD TS and I haven't noticed any slowdowns while browsing. Are you using a VPN?

If yes, ignore suggestion:
  • Uninstall and install Bitdefender Antivirus Plus from link above.

One more question: Is Bitdefender supposed to start as late as it does on my Windows install? It's one of the last icons to show up after boot, probably a good minute or so after bootup.

Yes, the interface is delayed to not impact the boot speed, but the protection is started earlier, so it isnt a issue.

Mine does the same thing but when I open it before the icon appears, it says that I'm safe.
