Shadowra mentioned this on a previous post, so I decided to give it a go. Seems like a very good browser extension. I would be interested in other peoples experience on this. The only negative for me is that it does not give "Green Ticks" on Google search results like Norton.

I'm glad to hear that you decided to give the SafeToOpen browser extension a try based on Shadowra's recommendation! It's always helpful to hear about others' experiences with a particular extension before deciding to use it.

Regarding your concern about the lack of "Green Ticks" on Google search results like Norton, it's important to note that different security tools may have varying ways of indicating the safety of websites. While Norton may use green ticks, SafeToOpen likely uses a different system to convey the safety status of websites.

SafeToOpen focuses on providing comprehensive security features to protect users from malicious websites and potential threats, even if it doesn't use the same visual indicators as Norton. It's always a good idea to consider the overall effectiveness and reliability of an extension rather than just the specific visual cues it provides.

If you have any specific questions or would like more information about SafeToOpen or any other browser extensions, feel free to ask!

Have a look at their website SafeToOpen: Experience a Safer Internet

Safe to open uses AI to identify phising and fraud emails and websites. It analysis the visual elements of a website sort of in the same way as facial recognition software works. The AI engine calculates a value. This value is compared with a database of known brands. When the website's value is close to the value they have in their data base (meaning it looks like that website the fraud/scam wants to imitate), but the url is different it it warns you. For performance reasons this analysis is done in two steps (that is why it sometimes asks you whether you allow them to analyse the website's visual elements).

Because it is a completely different approach, you can combine Safe to Open with Norton or BitdefenderTrafficLight

Seems like a decent extension on some tests I have made although it's not my top 3 but it's supposed to get better with more and more users and has a promising future but not sure if it's fair as I'm comparing it to checkpoint anyway I should definitely do more tests of safe to open but it seemed to block more fake sites in my tests then extensions that got top results in lab tests and this extension deserves a lab test I'm certain it would do well

Has anyone done any tests (Phishing/Malware.....).;)
I've done some tests personally and it was really effective. Sometimes you need to perform a manual scan of the page or wait a few seconds until it is analyzed and blocked.

Here a user made a test of multiple extensions:

I ran a few quick tests.
The block page is clear and effective.
The extension is very quick at blocking malicious links to phishing/malware content.
It's a disaster on fake sites, where it's more effective to use HaGeZi filter lists at the DNS level.

Unfortunately, all the links where I detected S.t.O. blocking were also blocked by my DNS defenses (NextDNS), always https, or by Google Safe Browsing in the browser.

It is useless if the extension also blocks many http links with malware content when activating "always https" in the browser allows you to stay safe anyway.

I prefer to use only NextDNS.

I personally can't confirm. I always choose to look for malicious and phishing links on AnyRun and it blocks quite a few sites that both Google Safe Browsing and NextDNS miss (all protections enabled)

As I said sometimes it needs some time to scan pages or needs you to manually scan them.

Example: https://flee(.)incarecentral(.)com(.)au/

Hi, have a good weekend.
You can't confirm it because you only use OISD big (I assume).
I use HaGeZi - Multi ULTIMATE.
It partially uses many anti-phishing filter lists.
See here:

dns-blocklists/sources.md at main · hagezi/dns-blocklists

However, we can do a simple coordinated test.
You find a link here:

PhishTank > Phish Search

that is only blocked by Safe To Open, and therefore is not blocked by Google Safe Browsing.

And I'll check if it's blocked by NextDNS (HaGeZi, of course).

P.S.

If you want more than one.;)

@SeriousHoax

I have a question for you, since you are always very knowledgeable about DNS.
In your opinion, is the big OISD list always necessary for people like me who use HaGeZi Multi Ultimate?
TH.

P.S.

ChatGPT says no.
I deleted OISD big
